This policy explains how we collect, use, store and disclose personal information about visitors to our website, in compliance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the thirteen Australian Privacy Principles contained in Schedule 1 of that Act.

Information we collect. We collect limited personal information when you visit the site. This includes technical information sent by your browser (IP address, user agent, referrer), aggregate analytics data collected via Plausible Analytics and Google Analytics, and any information you voluntarily provide when contacting our editorial team by email.

How we use it. We use analytics data to understand which articles our readers find useful, to detect and prevent abuse, and to comply with our legal obligations. We do not sell or share personal information with operators or third party advertisers for behavioural targeting purposes.

Cookies. We use three cookie categories. Essential cookies maintain your session. Analytics cookies aggregate page view data with IP anonymisation enabled. Preference cookies remember display choices. You can disable non-essential cookies via your browser without loss of core functionality.

Data retention. Analytics data is retained for twenty four months, after which it is deleted. Editorial correspondence is retained for the life of any related editorial work plus three years.

Third parties. We use Plausible Analytics and Google Analytics as processors, and Cloudflare for content delivery and security. Each processor is bound by its own privacy commitments; we do not authorise onward disclosure for advertising purposes.

Your rights. Under the APPs, you have the right to access personal information we hold about you, to request correction, and to lodge a complaint about our handling of your information.

Complaints. Complaints about our privacy practices should be directed to [email protected] in the first instance. We commit to a written response within thirty days. If you are not satisfied, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) via oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
